Ty Thornock is a full time teacher in Avoca Iowa. Since he was a boy he would take sticks and whittle them with a pocket knife, but he really began carving in earnest in 2013. Ty carves in the Scandinavian tradition using tools and techniques developed there to carve safely. He carves primarily green (fresh cut) wood and makes a variety of both useful and sculptural items. He has taught woodcarving at various venues across the country including a weekly woodcarving club for children at his school. His work has been displayed in museums and is owned in private collections around the world.
