Beginning Spoon Carving
The word for spoon comes from an old word that means ‘chip of wood’. It just makes sense to carve wooden spoons! During this course students will all have the opportunity to learn the techniques to carve beautiful, functional wooden spoons in a beautiful outdoor setting. Every student will leave the course with a spoon that they have carved.
Students will learn how to safely use an axe, a carving knife and a hook knife. We will learn about tool maintenance and wood selection as well.
Students need good arm strength, this course is suitable for students ages 15 and older.
Space is limited to 5 students, so register early.
Join others as they gather in the Villages of Van Buren to learn from the resident artisans in their personal studios. Spend a weekend plein air painting along the Des Moines River, or step back in time as you throw bowls in a Pottery Shop. The inspiring and relaxing atmosphere of scenic Van Buren County, Iowa is, and will continue to be, a haven for creative beings.
