Bill Printy has worked in the metal trades for most of his adult life. He began Blacksmithing as a hobby in the early 1970’s and established a part time business of blacksmithing about 1975. He has demonstrated at art shows, Civil War Reenactments, and Buckskinner Rendezvous throughout the Midwest. He is primarily self taught but has attended many workshops on blacksmithing. He has studied at the College of Arts and Crafts of the Pacific and the John Campbell Folk School. He is a long time member of the Artist Blacksmiths Association of North America, the Blacksmiths Association of Missouri. and the Upper Midwest Blacksmiths Association. Since 1989 he has operated the forge at Iron & Lace in the Bentonsport National Historic District in Southeast Iowa producing ironwork for the Gallery. His finished work is displayed in public locations and private collections throughout the United States. He also operates the Forge and Anvil Academy, teaching workshops in Blacksmithing since 1998. Bill teaches Blacksmithing, Tong Making, Tool Making and Forge Weldingclasses in his workshop behind the Iron & Lace store in Bentonsport.
