Verne Ramsey is a Van Buren County native. He lives in the village of Keosauqua.
Verne worked as a production supervisor at John Deere employee and took up beekeeping when he retired twenty years ago. He teaches beekeeping classes for the Iowa Honey producers and honey bee emergency training for fire departments and emergency personnel. He tries to maintain twenty to thirty hives.
His Chair Caning includes seven step weaving, continuous wrap with ash splits, rush and also pressed-in type. Also offered is a Flat Reed Chair Caning class and Fiber Rush Weave class. Vernie has been chair caning since 1972.
